Nine of the Ten Highest Rent U.S. Cities Are in California

You probably already knew this, but: California has the country’s highest rents.

Nine of the U.S. cities with the most expensive one-bedroom apartments in June were in California, according to data from Zillow, a real estate research firm.

In San Francisco, a median one-bedroom apartment listing asked renters to pay $3,395, the highest in the country.

Next came Marina del Rey and Santa Monica, both in western Los Angeles county, with one-bedrooms at $3,190 and $2,950.

Then came a line of cities along the southwestern San Francisco Bay: Foster City at $2,878; San Mateo at $2,650; Santa Clara at $2,619 and Sunnyvale at $2,615.
