Looking for a fresh start after years of working in sales in the housewares industry, REALTOR® Ben Hahn decided to take a leap of faith and get his real estate license in 2018. While the first year was a challenge, as it is for everyone, Ben’s business has been on an upward trajectory ever since he began working as a solo agent at a local office in his hometown of Minneapolis. Today, he works with a team who cover the Twin Cities together as they represent buyers and sellers of high-end single family homes in the ‘Land of 10,000 Lakes.’

Last year, Ben’s repeat and referral clients totaled 95% of his business, showing how much people enjoy working with him. He has in-depth knowledge of the marketplace that is hard to find in less experienced agents, plus he knows how to make people feel at ease. “I treat people like family,” he says. “We’re in a seller-stressed market and there are just not enough homes available. Being able to help my clients navigate this chaotic time has a lot of value and they appreciate it.” To keep in touch with everyone, Ben makes phone calls, sends emails and works with a social media management company. He believes in the small gestures, like sending a handwritten note or holiday card to show people that he is still present in their lives. Going above and beyond for his listings, Ben works with The Uncommon Creative Studio to “light stage” homes to help clients visualize what it would be like to live there.

While Ben’s team brings in 8-10 million in volume each year, his greatest accomplishment is something far more valuable to him. He founded an initiative called Local Roots Real Estate that donates 5% of their commissions to local businesses and residents facing homelessness. “Local Roots gives me something else to wake up to beyond buying and selling houses,” Ben says. “At the end of the day, we all want people to have a roof over their head and a safe environment to live. Getting behind the mission of Local Roots has actually helped my business grow because there is a strong motivating reason behind why we do what we do — we’re working to build the community from the ground up.”

Unsurprisingly, Ben’s schedule is busy, but he makes time to visit his favorite shops and restaurants in the Twin Cities when he can. From the famous white cheddar popcorn of PoppedCorn to DelSur Empanadas, the area has a lot to offer foodies like Ben. He supports both of these businesses as well as a local brewery called Unmapped Brewing Co., using all three to cater housewarming events and gift clients with treats.

As his career progresses, Ben hopes to build out his team by adding five to ten more agents to work together as a co-operative. “It’s an opportunity to combine forces, collaborate, and help each other if someone is out of town,” he says. “Having flexibility is the biggest blessing about being in this business, and work is even more manageable when you are sharing it with others. Ultimately, I just love waking up in the morning to new surprises around every corner. You just don’t get that in any other industry!”
