Palm Springs | $3.495 million
A midcentury A-frame house on 0.4 acres
This three-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath house was designed in 1958 by the architect Charles Du Bois for the Alexander Construction Company, with an oversized A-frame facade and Polynesian-inspired flourishes. The house, which includes a casita with its own wet bar and bathroom, is a popular stop on architecture tours of Palm Springs. The tract it sits in, known as Vista Las Palmas, is adjacent to the bustling Indian Canyon Drive and about a mile from the Palm Springs Art Museum.
Several hiking trails, including the Cactus to Clouds Trail, begin within a five-minute drive, and Joshua Tree National Park is an hour northeast. Los Angeles is a two-hour drive northwest. Palm Springs International Airport is 10 minutes away.
Size: 3,103 square feet
Price per square foot: $1,126
Indoors: A low privacy wall topped with mature hedges shields the house from the street. The front yard is home to a mix of succulents and tall palm trees.
Double doors open to the foyer, with the airy living room straight ahead. The fireplace’s stone surround runs from the floor to the ceiling, and a wall of windows looks out at the patio and pool outside. To the right of the living room is a bright dining area and the combined kitchen and breakfast room, where midcentury light fixtures hang above the bar. On the other side of the kitchen is a family room and a half bathroom.
The three bedrooms are linked by a hallway extending from the foyer. The primary suite, at the back of the house, has sliding-glass doors to a covered patio and an en suite bath with a deep soaking tub inside a glass-walled shower.
One of the guest bedrooms is especially bright thanks to clerestory windows facing the front yard. The bedrooms share a full bathroom, also off the hall, with a walk-in shower.
