Santa Monica | $3.95 Million
A three-story contemporary house from 2005 with three bedrooms and three bathrooms
This three-bedroom house was designed by leeMundwiler, an architecture studio based in Los Angeles and Switzerland. Parts of the exterior were crafted using custom-made panels of sand, and the roof is finished with recycled glass pebbles designed to reflect light and reduce heat.
The Ocean Park neighborhood of Santa Monica is busy, with several parks nearby and a Gelson’s supermarket less than a half-mile away. Ocean View Park, which sits adjacent to the beach, is less than a mile away, and 3rd Street Promenade, a popular outdoor shopping center, is a 10-minute drive.
Size: 3,583 square feet
Price per square foot: $1,102
Indoors: The front door opens to a long hallway. The entry level holds the primary suite, with a fireplace, a leather-covered accent wall, and glass doors out to the pool area. A walk-in closet is attached, as is a bathroom with a long, narrow window overlooking some of the property’s mature landscaping. A sitting room, currently set up as a billiards room, is also on this level. Another bedroom, just off the entryway, also has its own bathroom.
Stairs lead from the entry hall to the main level, with the living room straight ahead. A sleek fireplace is set into one wall, and glass panels fill the space with natural light. The floors are polished concrete.
The kitchen and dining area are also on the main level. Walls of glass open to a patio, and a built-in dining nook is tucked in a corner. The kitchen has an oversized island and walls finished with white subway tile, plus an eight-burner Wolf range and a farmhouse-style sink. Off the living room, a bedroom has its own full bathroom with colorful Spanish-style tiles lining the wall behind the vanity.
Outdoor space: The roof deck offers ocean views. A Danish-style wood stove stands in one corner. The pool, off the entry level, is ideal for lap swimming. A covered carport has parking for six cars.
